The Stone Sky by NK Jemisin (The Broken Earth: Book 3)

The stunning finale to the record breaking triple Hugo Award winning trilogy.

The Moon will soon return. Whether this heralds the destruction of humankind or something worse will depend on two women. Essun has inherited the phenomenal power of Alabaster Tenring. With it, she hopes to find her daughter Nassun and forge a world in which every outcast child can grow up safe. For Nassun, her mother's mastery of the Obelisk Gate comes too late. She has seen the evil of the world, and accepted what her mother will not admit: that sometimes what is corrupt cannot be cleansed, only destroyed.

"An ambitious book, with a shifting point of view, and a protagonist whose full complexity doesn't become apparent till toward the end... Jemisin's work itself is part of a slow but definite change in sci-fi and fantasy" The Guardian

"Heartbreaking, wholly unexpected, and technically virtuosic, The Fifth Season is a tour-de-force. I felt every shock - and the book is packed with them - in my marrow. It's no exaggeration to say that Jemisin expands the range of what great fantasy can be" Brian Staveley, author of The Emperor's Blades, on The Fifth Season

"Jemisin deliberately refuses to provide easy answers: they're simply not available, in this world or ours. Painful and powerful" Kirkus on The Stone Sky

The Stone Sky reader reviews

The Broken Earth trilogy is one of the finest I have ever read. Breathtaking imagination, wonderful characterization and is epic in every sense of the word. This is a master-class in world-building and I will now happily read anything written by Jemisin. Full of clever twists and characters that are on par with Robin Hobb's creations, it is a trilogy that must be read and re-read.
